After this data was published in Bangladeshi media, the police department protested. Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters, Md. Nazrul Islam, stated in a protest letter:
"Even in the world’s ninth most populous country, Bangladesh, when couples elope due to love, kidnapping cases are filed. In such cases, 84% of all kidnapping cases are filed against boyfriends for allegedly abducting the girls."

Now the question arises: what exactly is a love-related kidnapping case?
Suppose two teenagers or college students fall in love. If the girl’s family does not accept the relationship, the couple may decide to elope and marry. Whenever a couple elopes without parental consent, the girl’s parents often go to the police and file a kidnapping case against the boy, his family, and his friends.
In most such cases, the boy and girl are teenagers. Even though both decide to elope together, the law often only holds the boy, his family, and friends accountable, while the girl is considered a victim. Serious charges like kidnapping and even rape are sometimes filed only against the boy and his family, not the girl.
